Writing is putting words on paper

Lead in: A facebook friend’s existential exploration reminds me of what I haven’t been doing. The books I want to read and dwell in. The writing that I ought to be practicing. Putting in not the 5 minutes a day, but the 4 hours a day (at least).

I’m reminded of a book that came out of the free book bin. Not The Riddle of the Sands. But Fiction Writer’s Handbook, by Hallie and Whit Burnett. A copy of Hillsdale’s Imprimis, with Putin on the cover holds the place. And here is the paragraph that catches my attention:

::Once a shy, small boy had a part in a school play in which his responsibility was to come in at the right moment with “Oh.” The adults around him took this as a funny matter–until he was heard speaking his “Oh” in every possible inflection. “Oh?” “Oh!” “Oh.”::
